Yuregir name comes from Yuregir Plain on which Yüreğir tribe,
connected to Üçoklar from Oguz Clan, settled in A.D 1250-1352.
It was founded on 05.06.1986 with the Law 3306.
Our district is in center of Cukurova which is made up of
Seyhan and Ceyhan Rivers. It’s in the east of Seyhan River.Yuregir
District has smooth and grassy plains. The villages and
subdistrcits of Yuregir are on the north and south part of E-5
main road.
After divided as Yüreğir and Sarıçam districts, its surface area
is 857,987 . Its altitude is 21
metres. In the district Mediterranean Climate is seen. In
summers it is hot and dry and in winters it is warm and rainy.
Average precipitation is 625 mm. 50% of the precipitation is in
winter, 26 % of it is in spring, 18% is in autumn and 5% is in
summer. The coldest month is January and the hottest month is
August.
As the north part of the city is mountainous, it’s closed to
winds. Being open to warm winds coming from sea in the south and
west parts has created green house effect in the plain part of
the district.
The district consists of one central and 6 separate
municapilities. With addition of 3 abolished town neighbourhood,
there are 41 neighbourhoods. After the abolition of first rank
municipalities and town municipalities,58 neighbourhoods have
been added to our district. Çelemli town has one neighbourhood
and its population is 1,413. There are total 100 neighbourhoods in
the district. The population of
the 6 villages of the district is 3,423, the population of 100 neighbourhoods is 417,693 and the total population is 422,529.
In the
center and villages, there are collective settlements. Some
villages have more than one area of settlement so the population
of these villages are pretty high. Many villages have more than
two neighbourhoods. Neighbourhoods of the villages are quite
crowded. There is a positive relationship between administrative
units and the population.
